Philadelphia Grocers Organize to Fight Food Stamp Assets Test

Grocers Advocate Against Imposing SNAP Asset Test:  “A plan that would make it more difficult for poor people to qualify for food stamps is being met with opposition by some grocers in Philadelphia.  Urban grocers are banding together to fight a plan by the state to eliminate food stamps for individuals and families with more than $2,000 in savings or other assets. Seniors would need to demonstrate that they have less than $3,250 in assets.”  See “Grocers fight food stamp plan,” by Peter Van Allen, Philadelphia Business Journal, 1/20/12.
